What a title? Huh?!
Has Noah gone nuts? (Well that happened years ago, LOL!)
No, for real, these were the themes of some surprisingly deep talks at the grocery store today!
After having been yelled at by a customer for being in his way earlier this week, having these deep talks with two of my co-workers was, well, rather redeeming! (To say the least.)
My first talk with one of my co-workers was how we both got sober. Then we both agreed that when you are on your death bed, the one thing that matters more than anything else is did you make amends with those you love and care about. Did you die with dignity in your relationships.
Then the next co-worker I spoke with, in an attempt to pay him a compliment by saying he would be great at a certain job in the store, well I ended up offending him, big time!
What a chance to put what I learned in the first conversation into practice...
So I went to him and said I am so sorry if I offended you!
He said it was like saying he should get demoted and he had worked over two decades to get to where he was in the store.
I told him how much I respected and admired the position I thought he would be good at and how much I respected and admired the work he does for the store.
Really. I told him again. Till he GOT IT!
Thank you's were exchanged, respect restored.
Dignity in death comes from making amends while we are living.
What amends are there for you, for me, for us?
